
| APTED Multidisciplinary Treatment Center Current Group Therapy Schedule Sept / October 2011 The Association of Professionals Treating Eating Disorders (APTED), Multimodality Treatment Center has a new schedule of group therapy/group support offerings that have been designed to enhance treatment and support for our current clients, as well as provide some options for potential new clients that are interested the powerfully transformative group therapy experience. Continuing Groups include: Emotion Mastery, Healthy Mind and Body, 12 Step Support, and Art Therapy A new group called Seeking Safety will be offered at two different times during the week, on Monday evenings from 5:30-7 and Friday mornings from 10-12, starting September 9th Seeking Safety- Is a present focused therapy originally designed to help people cope with trauma/anxiety/substance abuse that is being applied to eating disorders and emotional dysregulation. This group focuses on building coping and grounding skills as an alternative strategy to dealing with cognitive and behavioral issues related to eating and body image dysfunction and emotional dysregulation. The APTED clinic has sliding- scale therapy for individuals, couples and families; groups are by donation; and we also have sliding scale nutritional appointments available soon. Healthy Mind and Body- Psycho-educational and process group dedicated to conscious concepts for eating, living, and loving oneself; mind, body, and soul. Mind-Body Skills & Techniques - Psycho-educational and process group working with Mindfulness, Intuitive Eating, Stress Reduction, Emotional: Awareness, Identification & Process. Somatic Healing - A holistically oriented approach to wellness which integrates the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of being. This approach incorporates movement, play, and physical expression that creates profound healing through awareness of one’s body, and sensations experienced through them. Comfortable clothing suggested, so you can move freely. Continuing Care - Process group designed to support ongoing recovery, improve wellness, and cultivate empowerment. 12 Step-Support - A fellowship meeting where individuals can share their experiences, strength, and hope with each other, so that they may recover to a life free from obsession/addiction with food, weight, and body image. Art Therapy- Expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, and allows for a deeper understanding for oneself. TBA Don’t Diet, Live It ! - 8-week, Eating Disorder Recovery Group (psycho-educational & process) following the Don’t Diet, Live It! workbook. This group focuses on building coping and grounding skills as an alternative strategy to dealing with cognitive and behavioral issues related to eating and body image dysfunction and emotional dysregulation. * * * * * * * * * * * * Group Info Apted groups are facilitated by doctoral and master’s level interns, that are closely supervised by licensed psychologists Dr. Deborah Brenner-Liss and Dr. Adriana Popescu. Group admission will be based on a variety of factors relative to specific group parameters that will be assessed on an ongoing basis, with available space, group composition, and group and individual needs being a few examples. Group Requirements and Courtesy To ensure the most beneficial group therapeutic experience: -Official admittance to all groups must be approved by the Group Facilitators of each group. -Regular attendance to group for an initial 8 week period, unless planned absence is communicated to group facilitator is essential to build group cohesiveness (with the exception of the 12 Step Group). -After initial 8 weeks, ongoing attendance is encouraged, and more flexible attendance is negotiable with communication.
