About APTED:
The Association of Professionals Treating Eating Disorders (APTED) is a non-
profit corporation, a 501(c) 3, and as such we are tax-deductible for donations.
We offer education and training, we offer referral information to professionals
and to the public, and we offer low-fee, sliding-scale direct service.
APTED, the organization, is an affiliation of private practitioners – psychologists,
MFTs, social workers, physicians, psychiatrists, nutritionists, body workers,
coaches, dance and movement therapists, art therapists, drama therapists, and
expressive arts therapists – a broad range of professionals involved in treating
people with eating disorders.
APTED has been in the Bay Area since 1985. The goals of APTED include
support, training, referrals and direct service. We offer training and networking
opportunities to professionals, we offer support and referrals to professionals
of other disciplines or other geographical areas, and we offer support,
referrals, and/or direct service to those in recovery from eating disorders, as
well as to their friends and/or family members.
APTED has put on large conferences in 1987, 1988, 1998, and 2006, with a
number of quarterly or monthly trainings and workshops interspersed amongst
these large conferences. Our website will keep a current listing of upcoming
trainings and CEU presentations and conferences; our e-tree will send out
announcements of such to APTED members.
Our low-fee clinic, which sees clients for sliding scale fees, is staffed by
clinicians in training. Some have been clinicians already licensed, and perhaps
already with certificates from Eating Disorder Certificate programs, but who
wished to increase their experience-base working with eating disorder clients.
Others have been practicum students, psychological assistants, MSW students
completing hours for licensure, and/or MFT interns. A limited number of training
slots are available for professionals wishing such additional training.
Supervision is provided.
An APTED member who wishes a print-out of professionals in the San
Francisco Bay Area (in order to from study groups, make referrals, conduct
research studies and the like) can submit a request in writing (3195 California
Street, San Francisco, CA 94115) or phone the APTED phone number, 415-771-
3068.

included among our resource lists, please give them a copy of the Membership
